This is a problem in the merlin version you're using. Merlin version
0.6.6 only logs number of events handled every 5 seconds, so the log
grows a lot slower. Warnings and errors are still logged, but it shuts
up about repeated sql errors 15 seconds since the last time it logged
one, or you'd get 6 lines of logmessages per event received.

This changed behaviour reduced logging from 200MB to 300KiB over a
24 hour period on one of our test-systems, so try upgrading to latest
git version and it should go away.
