Thanks - I had the configuration wrong. All working now.
However, when I first changed the config I had it wrong so it didn't
work (missing /) and after correcting, no amount of restarting Nagios or
Merlin would get it to see the corrected config. However, I left it for
a hour or so and when I came back it was suddenly all working! Is there
some trick to get Ninja to see the updated config?
